Okay, I know alot od people on here probally do thier own work on thier vehicles so maybe I can get some help on here...My step dad went & got a 1995 Ford ranger 2.3 5 speed & hes had it for about 4 months. Drove it everyday & has had nothing wrong with it. His temp. gauge never worked & one day it started to read. IT HAS NEVER GOT PAST THE NORMAL RANGE, but it does go up. We started fooling with it & checked the radiator & it looked like it had some old stop leak in it. Weve flushed the radiator at least 20 times in the last month, flushed the heator core, put a new thermostat in it & all & it still reads. Iv talked to a couple of people & they said when we flushed the radiotor with radiator flush, it could have made the censor work, or do weird things. It still gets nasty stuff in the radiator ever now & then & we just flush it then. Like I said before, it nevers gets to the H or ever close. Were just worried its getting so hot thats it reading a little bit. Any help would really help me alot. Do you think it could be working now, or what could it be? the water pump or the fan is not bad & the oil is not "milky" & it doesnt smoke so its not the head. Also, how could I check it even if the gauge doesnt work....thanks alot..

The best thing to do would be to go buy a aftermarket gauge since youre worried bout the temp..they don't cost that much and ain't that hard to install.

I did buy one, havent installed yet...I talked to one of my buddies from a local garage & he said it would leak coolant from everywhere possible if it was overheating, so he thinks it the censor...so i have no clue lol

You can also use a meat thermometer. Stick it to the radiator and the hoses to see how hot it is. Where the line is on the thermometer , compare that to the heat gauge. That will tell you if the truck is running hot or not. If you do change the temp sensor and it doesn't read correctly then it is the gauge in the dash.
